Topic of your question (reviews, categories, duplicate listing, etc.): Adding Image From Web Error
Same issue. Trying to add images that meet Google guidelines from the site panoramio. Have tried different browsers, different links, different listings, different terminal locations. NONE Are Adding photos from the web and all are giving the response, "We are unable to store your image at this time" - Google Please assist.
All: We're working on long-term changes to photos and photo uploads. It's going to be awhile, so in the mean time, I strongly suggest you upload photos via your listing and manage them from your Picasa Web account.
At this point it is any link for any photo - even if i just pull a link from Google images. Have you tried to upload a file to listing this way and do you get an error?
It seems to be a widespread problem currently. Are you experiencing it only with photos from the web, or also when you try to upload photos from you device (desktop, mobile, etc) too?
Only with photos from the web. I can do a manual upload but I wanted to add them from the web for optimization. I noticed this last Friday and was hoping it was an isolated incident or that Google would correct the problem themselves. Any idea when they will have the issue resolved?
Kahuna, what do you mean by "to add them from the web for optimization"? Adding photos via your PC or via the web is practically the same in terms of optimization or ranking.
Yes, adding and geo-tagging photos on Panoramio, Flickr, etc does help. But adding them to your Place page directly via your dashboard does not really help. Or at least there is no difference depending on the way you upload them.
LOL, Dave I should have known you would be all over this already. Nyagoslav... is there a fix coming for this? It is getting to be quite a stumbling block. There is a big difference between the traction gained by adding from PC as opposed to from sharing sites. This has only just started being a problem so I am hoping there will be a quick turn around on this? Thanks.
I guess there really is "no time frame" LOL. A month later and still not working. Can't figure out why small business owners, who don't have the free time we do to spend in these forums, get so frustrated. Go figure!
Nyagoslav, I am also having this problem, but I wanted you to know that it happens whether I try to upload a photo from my computer OR simply give it the URL of an image online. If I do the former, it tells me in my GP Dashboard that I "have uploaded 1 of up to 10 images for this listing" but there is only a photo placeholder showing up in the Dashboard. If I give GP the URL of an online image from my website, I get the "We are unable to store your image at this time" error.
I hope this extra info will help Google find a fix sooner. This really sucks.
Does anyone have any further news on this, I am suffering the same problem, pics from both flickr and picasa web aren't working via the upload link in places pages. Very frustrating as so much work goes into optimising the images. Every other site gets the benefit just not Places pages. Boring.........
Hello Nialage, I did notice that if I upload the images from my computer, ignoring the "We are unable to store your image at this time" warning, and then gracefully log out, that the images are all there when I log in an hour or so later. It's not perfect but at least it worked for me this time. I hope it works for you also.
We know you're having trouble, and we're working on it -- but in the mean time, if you're having trouble uploading your photos via the Places dashboard, use the photo upload tool via the listing itself, and manage them via your Picasa web album.
still having the same problem here also. i can upload from my computer but i can't upload from online picture source. But in the mean time you can right click on the image and choose properties for that image. then click on details for that image. then you can add a title, tags, description etc. not as good as picture source but it works. I've been using this way for some time.
I've been having this same problem for 3-4 months now. Created a place for my new business but seems impossible to upload photos. I've tried directly from two different computers, resizing to very small, also with the URL from my website, but nothing works. Doing it from the places page where I have to be logged in to manage my info. Come on Google! Can we get this fixed? It's been months!
By any chance... In some weird way... Is it SOPA related? Surely there is some sort of an explanation for not being able to upload images for 3-4 months from a URL?

I do not see any answer to my photo question. But, when a photo is uploaded and they say it has to be approved? How in the world can Google possiblely hire enough persons to look at all the photos uploaded all over the world? This is nonsense and should be stoped.
Or I upload the same photo to one of our store locations but Google will not allow on the other location? What seems to be the problem?
@ Vanessa, how do you manage Places images from Picassa? The issue is we want to upload geo-tagged images to our Places listing. Can this be accomplished from Picassa? or edit the places images from Picassa?
@Vanessa, I have a client that has manually uploaded photos on all of their listings as a result of this photo bug (500+ locations). However, we want to update the data on the listings via bulk feed by uploading a new data file as a "replace." Would this cause the photos that my client has so painstakingly added one by one to be stripped off the listings? If so, is there any way to avoid the photos being lost?
I would truly hate for their efforts to have been wasted, but we do need to update the listings via bulk feed.
@vanessagene, first of all, thanks for your help with the issue.
The help tutorial that you just posted is very useful for geotagging our images using the picasa interface. However, once the image has been GeoTagged, we need to get them onto our places page!
Once I have geotagged the image in Picasa, what's the next step?
Oh and one more thing... I followed the instructions that you gave earlier pertaining to uploading images via the listing itself. I see where those have now ended up on my picasa web album, in their own little spot titled "photos for google maps".
This is a really good sign, but I guess now they have to be approved? If it's up to me to approve them, please let me know how I can do it.
Otherwise, until this image problem has been fixed, I assumed that it would be best to just upload the images from my hard drive. Should I delete the images that have been uploaded so that there is room for the ones that are pending approval?
I would love to have nothing but Geotagged images posted, I don't want my current images to get in the way of that happening.
I think any advice that you could give in this respect would really help all of us. Thanks for your time!
This seems to be taking forever to solve..any idea as to when, i want to upload images from Panoramio because they are optimised but it still wont let me.
I have tried photo-bucket, Flicker and Google's own picture album Picassa but still get the Google Maps error: We are unable to store your image at this time. I have also tried this over several months at different times and on different browsers but continue to get the same error message when trying to load images from the web on to my Google Places business page.
I have also changed my category listing and save it yet defaults back to something Google likes instead. I have attempted to do this multiple times but keeps changing back to Karaoke Bar. I have clicked on the email me when listing is reviewed that was 10 days and still no change.
I love Google Places just please fix these issues! Jeff
